The ICSC Solal Marketing Awards, the benchmark of industry excellence, celebrate the best of retail marketing, rewarding the most effective campaigns.

ICSC Jury Chair Jacques Sinke, Director of International Retail at MAB Development and chair of the 2011 ICSC Solal Marketing Awards Committee, said: “The jury has been truly amazed by the ingenuity shown by so many entrants. In challenging times marketing teams add value to centers, meet the needs of today’s consumer and prepare for the needs of tomorrows”.

Two countries that did extremely well this year are Turkey and South Africa, both in terms of numbers of entries and in the quality of the campaigns.

Jacques Sinke added: “Evident this year were the importance of building long term relationships with the local media and getting tenants and brands involved.

“Two Special distinctions have been awarded this year to centers who have used social media particularly imaginatively. More digital marketing entries each year because when digital is done well, it’s very cost effective.”

The jury includes retailers, developers and investors. All winners automatically qualify for entry into the internationally-acknowledged ICSC VIVA ‘Best of the Best’ Awards which recognize excellence in global shopping center marketing. Centro Oberhausen, Germany, one of last year’s Solal gold winners, received the ‘Best of the Best’ Award for the best overall marketing project globally in Las Vegas just last month.
